“Stronger than lover’s love is lover’s hate”. Medea’s tragedy in Malborghetto

1944

Within the XVI edition of Rassegna teatri di Pietra Lazio, the 8th of July 2015, in the charming place of Maborghetto, will go on stage the national premier of “Medea”, by Jean Anouilh, directed by Francesco Branchetti. Barbara de Rossi will be Medea, one of the most interesting and debatable character in the history of ancient theater.
«Set up a Medea today – says the director – is a tribute to one the most important author of the 19th century, but is a discovery of a text full of meanings too, like the tragicalness of Medea, in her tragic loneliness, in her painful sensuality. She is overwhelmed by a irrepressible feeling».
In Anouilh’s version of the tragedy Medea will be presented to the public as dramatic woman, a woman who lives the relationship between male and female in a heartrending way. Giasone is not only a character, but is also a context, cultural and social context. He doesn’t show any consideration for feelings, and his only goal is having power, even the personal relationships are led by this willing. The cruelty of Medea is a statement, of a deep pain and alienation.
