Italian Umbria Jazz
A great meeting is dedicated to all the movida and jazz lovers. This year “Umbria jazz” won’t betray any Italian, or foreign passionate. Two hundred fifty events are taking place in Perugia between 10th and 19th July, and a preview is organised for July 9th. The music will invade the streets of the inner city from 12 a.m. until late night in open and enclosed spaces, and any preference will be satisfied: jazz, black music, pop, soul, electronic and Latin music will be played during the events. That’s the classic kind of festival, which offers high quality music in the most striking Perugia’s places ( one of the most amazing Italian cities, which is celebrated, this year, by the production of a coinage coin).
Many guests are taking part to this great event, such as: Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga (15th), Chick Corea with Herbie Hancock (14th), Caetano Veloso with Gilberto Gil (18th), Paolo Conte (7th), Brad Mehldau, Subsonica (11th), Cassandra Wilson (16th), Charles Lloyd, Dianne Reeves, Bill Frisell, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani (12th), Paolo Fresu (12th), Danilo Rea.
The main space dedicated to the evening concerts is, as usual, the “Arena Santa Giuliana”, where the most popular artists will perform. Other shows will take place in the “Teatro Marlocchi” ( dedicated to the mainstream jazz ), in “Piazza IV Novembre” and in “Giardini Carducci”.
The markable novelty is the preview on July 9th in “Piazza IV Novembre”, which will celebrate the 30years collaboration between Umbria Jazz and the Berklee College of Music of Boston, by proposing a concert of the Faculty Band of Larry Monroe and Donna McElroy, and the one of Alissia Benveniste & The Funcketeers.
