It’s time for Madama Butterfly

2209

Trad. Greta Isola
On July 6, at 9 pm, the Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly will be represented on stage. The Lucca’s composer has been the main focus for the poster representing the 2015 Caracalla season.
Alex Ollé has directed this year’s set-up. “It is a great honour to be here -said the director- the first time was five years ago”. It is the third Caracalla event for Ollé and working in this environment is for him a “metaphorical possibility”: a ‘beautiful ruin’. And isn’t this the point of Madame Butterfly?
“Butterfly” is a social and cultural history. It is a cultural one since it presents, as the director says, a narration of “power’s erotic”, with a romantic hint of a “lost heaven”.
For the first time Yves Abel has appeared on stage to direct the orchestra. Abel is one of the most talented “batons” of his generation. “Butterfly is a universally known masterpiece -said Abel- it is one of the shows that appear the most in posters all over the world”. In the masterpiece there are multiple forms of Italian lyric’s traditions. “We have tried to go back to the root of the masterpiece, trying to read perfectly the booklet’s instructions and the composer’s music, in order to give the audience a piece as realistic as possible”.
This year’s set-up is in cooperation with Opera Australia/Sidney Opera House. Flores’ scenes and Lluc Castells’ costumes, along with Franc Aleu’s video, will give the audience an unforgettable visual impact.
Asmik Grigorian (Lithuanian soprano who’s playing in Rome for the first time) and Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi will open the piece on Caracalla’s stage. Suzuki will be played by Anna Malagasy and Anna Pennisi. Pinkerton will be sang by Sergio Escobar and Angelo Villari. Furthermore, Saverio Fiore, Anastasia Bodyreva, Fabrizio Beggi e Federico Bennett will be part of the show.
“On July 16 we are going to open the opera season”. Says Carlo Fuortes, the supervisor. “It is an extremely qualified cast, there are no divisions. All the artists are amazing”. Fortes has also wanted to underline the productive effort that the Opera has made in order to guarantee a magnificent show.
